“I have ADHD and I was diagnosed only recently. Everything was much harder for me, especially when it came to my behaviour.
“At school I always did relatively well academically, but my behaviour was what got me into trouble. I feel sorry for the teachers who had to deal with me because I was a kid whose head was going at 2,000 miles an hour.
“My son was diagnosed at the same time as me. When they told me it was hereditary, I started crying because for eight years I hadn’t understood certain things.
“I thought, to put it bluntly, that he wasn’t listening to me and didn’t care. I would say, ‘Mate, I’m talking to you, respect me.’ But the reality was that it wasn’t that — it was simply how his brain worked.
“When I had to explain it to him, I said: ‘You’re special, just like Daddy. We both have to take a pill every morning and we have to try to concentrate and stay calm.’
“That way, you’re there alongside him, helping him little by little.” ![]()
